Do you like Beer?
Beer is one of the oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic drinks in the world, and the third most popular drink overall after water and tea. Beer is brewed from cereal grains—most commonly from malted barley, though wheat, maize (corn), and rice are also used. During the brewing process, fermentation of the starch sugars in the wort produces ethanol and carbonation in the resulting beer. Most modern beer is brewed with hops, which add bitterness and other flavors and act as a natural preservative and stabilizing agent. Other flavoring agents such as fruit, herbs, or fruits may be included or used instead of hops. In commercial brewing, the natural carbonation effect is often removed during processing and replaced with forced carbonation.
Beer forms part of the culture of many nations and is associated with social traditions such as beer festivals, as well as a rich pub culture involving activities like pub crawling and pub games.
Types of Beer
1. According to the classification of malt juice, beer is divided into low concentration, medium concentration, and high concentration.
1)Low concentration type: malt juice concentration in 6 ~8 (Bahrain sugar meter), alcoholicity is about 2%. It can be used as a refreshing beverage in summer. The disadvantage is poor stability and short storage time.
2 ) Medium concentration type: malt juice concentration is 10 ~12, 12 is common, the alcohol content is about 3.5%. It is the main beer varieties in China.
3 ) High concentration: malt juice concentration is 14 ~ 20 degrees, alcohol content is 4% ~ 5%. This beer has a long production cycle, contains many solid materials, and has good stability. It is suitable for storage and long-distance transportation.
2. According to the classification of beer color, beer is divided into yellow beer and black beer.
1 ) Yellow beer (light beer): It is light yellow, using short malt as raw material, with prominent hop fragrance and refreshing taste. It is a major product of beer production in China. Its chroma (expressed as 0.0011 ml of iodine liquid milliliter / 100ml) is generally maintained between 0.5ml iodine solution.
2 ) Dark beer (dark beer): Dark reddish brown or dark brown in color, brewed from malt baked at high temperature, containing more solids, high malt juice concentration, low fermentation degree, mellow taste, and distinct malt aroma. The color is generally between 5 ~ 15ml iodine solution.
3. Beer is divided into mature beer and draft beer according to different ways of sterilization.
1 ) Cooked beer: a stable beer after being pasteurized in bottles or canned food.
2 ) Draw beer: Beer with certain biological stability is sterilized by physical methods such as filtration without pasteurization or instantaneous high-temperature sterilization.
4.Other types of beer
1 ) Dry beer - the beer has high fermentation, low sugar content and high carbon dioxide content. It has the characteristics of dry taste and strong mouth killing.
2 ) Ice beer - Beer that cools beer to freezing point, makes beer appear tiny ice crystals and then filters the ice crystals to get the beer.
3 ) Whole malt beer - Following the pure brewing method in Germany, the raw materials are all malt, without any supplements, the malt flavor is prominent.
4 ) Wheat Beer - Beer brewed with wheat germ as the main raw material (accounting for more than 40% of the total raw material), using the upper fermentation method or the lower fermentation method.
5 ) Low (no) alcohol beer - beer with less than 2.5% (V/V) alcohol content is low alcohol beer, beer with less than 0.5% (V/V) alcohol content is alcohol-free beer.
6 ) Green beer - beer is green with natural spirulina extract, which is rich in amino acids and trace elements.
7 ) Warm beer - the seasoning of beer. Ginger or wolfberry can be used to prevent colds and stomach cold.
How to drink the beer better?
1. Frosting your glass
This is most definitely the biggest myth in beer drinking; the joy of a frosted beer glass. Contrary to what your local sports bar is telling you, your frosty glass is most definitely not enhancing your drinking experience.
In fact, by frosting your glass you’re causing the beer to foam, killing its carbonation and the aromas. Instead of popping your glass into the freezer, use it at room temperature after giving it a quick rinse under the tap to make sure it’s nice and clean and won’t interfere with any flavors.
2. Drinking beer ice cold
As much as your mates like to brag about having “cold beers”, this isn’t how you get the maximum taste. In fact, most beers are meant to be served just above room temperature and many experts recommend leaving them in the fridge for just 10 minutes before drinking to allow all the aromas and flavors to be exposed.
3. Leaving it in sunlight
Ever heard of the word “skunking”? If not, you’re about to. Beer is not supposed to be in sunlight before it’s opened. Walk into a hot shop and pick up any bottle of beer from a sun-exposed shelf. Open it and smell it…smells off right? It’s been skunked.
Beer should always be stored in a cool, dry place and out of sunlight in order to keep its taste and flavor just right.
4. Keeping it too long
We’re all guilty of having that one beer in the fridge which has been there for months. Whether you’re saving it for a special occasion or for a cheeky drink next Monday, you might find it will taste off or different to a normal brew.
This is because the taste and flavor of many beers age quickly and therefore should never be kept for long periods of time. Drink it or throw it out!
Always drink your beer in a mug or glass made from natural materials
Drinking beer the right way: Pour beer into the center of your glass from a height of 2-3cms. Wait for the foam to settle and then top off the glass ? of its height
Drink it in small sips to appreciate the flavor
Always drink beer just above room temperature
Beer can be served with all dishes but goes particularly well with fatty meat, smoked food, and high-fat cheeses
Only store your beer bottles standing up and not laying down on their sides
Now that you’re aware of how to drink your beer and store it, there’s no reason you can’t go out this weekend and enjoy yourself in style.
Whether you’ve decided to pop to your local pub, get the beers in at home or take advantage of a few beer hampers, there’s nothing stopping you from having a good time with your favorite drink.
